BEHIND THE SCREEN

My name is Karlyn Rainey and I love to create. I’m a 21-year-old college student currently attending Baylor University out in Waco, Texas. While down in Texas for school, I am able to follow my love for creating with my studies in professional writing and rhetoric, along with film and digital media.

When school is out and the southern sun burns the asphalt, I migrate north to Iowa where my family has been living since I graduated high school. Previously residing in Michigan, Colorado, and Minnesota, I am able to find the distinct beauty granted in each region of this country. I have moved around the states due to my father’s job, which has also allowed my family the opportunity to travel the world with him on business trips.

Seeing different corners of this earth never fails to catapult me into an overwhelming desire to see more. I love sharing my passion for the outdoors and travel through my photography; constantly being encouraged by my beautiful family to never stop paving my own way. Especially with my dreams to write.

Photography is an outlet for me to show how miraculously small human life is when we can allow ourselves to be humbled by what’s outside. How this sense of insignificance can be destructive when lost in our own derealization, but reframed to kindle an inexplicable spark in our hearts when we know our smallness in this universe to be that of a flower. When her petals droop and fall to the dirt, she is awoken in that very earth she fell to.

I wake up everyday inspired by the fragrances of my environment, reminding me that there’s always more to learn and more to see. I hope my passion and warmth for life can be shared through my stills and writing, and my awe, and at times confusion, in my insignificance in this world can be seen in my collages and poems.
